Term 3

Term 3

Our focus: Science

Writing

In writing this term, we have used a number of books. These include 'Tyrannosaurus Drip' by Julia Donaldson, 'Monkey Puzzle' by Julia Donaldson and 'Dinosaur Lady' by Linda Skeers. We have worked on our rhyming skills, learnt how to add an adjective into our sentences to make them more interesting and found out what onomatopoeia is. Ka-chow!

Maths

In maths this term, we have been focusing on addition and subtraction. We spent a little bit of time going over our number bonds, the operation symbols that are in these number sentences and how we can add and subtract using the column method. Through this, we have been thinking about place value and why it is important to ensure that we have a 'place holder' when using columns in our work.

Topic

In topic this term, we have been focusing on science. We looked at lots of different aspects of science throughout the term. Our first focus was on dinosaurs and how we could classify them based on their diet. We learnt the terms herbivore, omnivore and carnivore and even used these words to describe ourselves! We also looked at different habitats and how we could work out what kind of habitat an animal lives in through using their adaptations. We worked out that polar bears are good at living in a cold habitat because of their thick skin and fur. To end the term, we had a look at food chains and how they begin and end. This tied in well with what we learned about classifying things based on their diet. We got to understand that the food chain could end up more like a cycle in the end!
